Passage: 1st Kings 17:7-16

In “Enough Until It Comes,” Pastor Steven Furtick delivers a sermon emphasizing that God provides “enough” for us to endure until His full promise is revealed (3:57). He draws from the biblical story of Elijah, the prophet, and the widow of Zarephath (0:00).

Key themes include:

  • God Meets Your Need’s: Furtick highlights God’s ability to meet needs, urging listeners to rely on Him rather than other resources that may eventually “dry up” (7:28). He explains that dryness in life can be a divine redirection back to God (13:29).
  • God’s Provision in Seasons: The sermon illustrates how God sustains His people, even in difficult circumstances, just as Elijah was fed daily by ravens at the dried-up brook (15:01-16:27). The “drying up” of a resource is not a sign of abandonment, but rather a sign that God is moving you to a new assignment (26:15).
  • Trusting God’s Timing: Furtick addresses the human desire to know the future, likening God’s word to a “lamp to my feet” rather than a “floodlight” (19:51). He encourages trusting God’s plan and not worrying about tomorrow, as each day has enough of its own challenges (21:07).
  • Taking Action on Current Revelation: The pastor stresses that we often have “enough” knowledge and past guidance from God to act on, even while waiting for the next step (28:14). He states that God will provide more wisdom when it’s needed (31:32).
  • The Problem as a Prophecy: Furtick reveals that sometimes the very problems we face are prophecies in disguise, designed to reveal what God has already given us (40:00). He uses the example of the widow’s single jar of flour and jug of oil, which miraculously did not run dry (43:15), signifying that “one” is enough when God is the source (44:00).
  • God’s Grace is Sufficient: The sermon concludes with the powerful message that God’s grace is sufficient to carry us through struggles until true freedom comes, reminding us to lean on Him (46:00).
Why Does God Use Dryness?

God uses dryness as a means of redirection and to reveal His sufficiency (13:29). Pastor Steven Furtick explains that when something dries up in your life, it’s not necessarily a sign that God has abandoned you. Instead, it can be a divine redirection to move you to a new assignment or to depend solely on Him (26:15).

He emphasizes that God’s grace is sufficient during these times, even when it feels like you don’t have enough (46:00-47:01). The “dry places” can be a calling away from self-dependence and into a deeper revelation of who God is (53:46).

What is the Significance of the Single Jar?

The significance of a single jar and jug is that God provides “enough” even when it appears to be very little (43:15). Pastor Steven Furtick emphasizes that it wasn’t a multitude of jars and jugs, but just one jar of flour and one jug of oil (43:48-44:00).

This illustrates that:

  • God’s provision is not about abundance in quantity, but about sufficiency in quality. The single jar and jug did not run out, providing daily sustenance for the woman, her son, and Elijah throughout the famine (3:13-3:27, 44:05-44:10).
  • It teaches reliance on God as the source rather than the resource itself. Even if it looks like there isn’t more, God ensures it won’t run out (44:05-44:20).
  • It signifies that you have enough within you, empowered by God, to fulfill your responsibilities and make it through difficult seasons (44:30-45:30).
Be Encouraged

No matter what “dry seasons” you might be facing, remember that God has already given you enough for what’s next (0:00). Even when your resources seem to dwindle or your prayers feel unanswered, understand that God is a faithful Need Meeter (7:28). The very problems you’re experiencing might actually be a prophecy (40:00), revealing God’s sustained provision in ways you never expected.

Don’t be discouraged by what you don’t have, but take action on the last thing God spoke to you (28:14). You already know enough (30:35) to take your next step. God’s grace is always sufficient to carry you through (46:00), and He is good at His job (34:20). Trust in His perfect timing, because He won’t fulfill the promise before it’s time (21:07).

You are not abandoned when things dry up; often, it’s a sign God is redirecting you (13:29) to a new assignment or a deeper dependence on Him. Embrace the journey, knowing that there is always enough for you to do your job, not God’s (48:23). Ultimately, God, You Are Enough (51:22)!
